Who can donate breast milk?
Any woman that is healthy and does not smoke, drink or do drugs. All she has
to do is get a copy of her Medical testing STD's from her doctor. All doctors do
this kind of testing now during pregnancy. Its easy to call the office and tell them
you need a copy. I would also need to know if you are on any medications.
Many are fine in breastfeeding. But the mommy needs to be informed. If the
mommy wants any further testing done. She will pay for it for the donor.
Who can get donated breast milk?
Any mommy who wants milk for her baby. You just have to pay the shipping
costs and reimburse the donor for her bags. This is not for people with fetishes.
I will not respond to them
How do I become a donor?
Contact me through this site. Tell me where you live. And if you have milk frozen
to donate now or if you wish to start pumping. I will get right back with you.
How do I obtain breast milk?
Contact me through this site as well. Tell me where you live. And about you and
your baby. I try to match mommy's with donors that live as close as possible.
But most of the time they are several states away.
What do I do after I am matched?
You will be given your donors name and email address. After you have made
contact and have her home address. There are a few steps you need to take.
Here they are.
1. Call fed ex set up an account. Go to any fed ex drop off station and pick up
several air bills and clear shipping sleeves.
2. Get a clean camping cooler a hard one. 48-64 quart size.
3. Purchase 3 packs of Gerber zip lock breast milk storage bags. They run
$6.00 for 25
4. Purchase a roll of duck tape. On the standard 3 inch roll only a smaller
amount of duck tape on the roll. Then purchase a regular size. You will need
this for shipping your cooler.
5. Get 2 pieces of paper. In BOLD black marker write. " Human Milk Handle with
Care!"
After I have given you your donors email addy and you have made contact.
Then put the small duck tape roll, storage bags, paper signs in the cooler. Take
an air bill and fill it out. You do not want your donor to have to do it. The easier
for her the better. Be sure to put her addy on it as well. Remember to put your
fed ex number on it. Mark the cooler weight as 50 pounds. Do NOT date it. Slip
the air bill in one of the clear shipping sleeves. Put this in the cooler s well.
Seal your cooler with your duck tape and take to the post office and ship
through general mail.
How will the donor pack and ship it back to me?
When the donor receives the cooler. She will call fed ex and get the latest pick
up time for the day she plans to send it out. She will remove all the items from
inside the cooler. Pack it as full as she can with milk. Then she will crumple up
some newspapers on top to take up air space. Then her medical releases will
be put on top of the newspapers over the milk. She closes the cooler and seals
it all the way around the lid with the duck tape you provided. An one time all the
way around the cooler on each end. She will then take the signs you made and
tape them to the front and back of the cooler. Takes out the air bill from the
billing sleeve and dates it and remove the first page. Customers copy. She will
then put it back in the shipping sleeve , pull of the sticky back and put on top of
the cooler. Its ready for fed ex pick up.
What does it cost to ship milk?
That depends on where you are. It runs about $120.00 to $170.00 . But I mark
mine for next day afternoon. Its about 30.00 cheaper. a cooler holds about 700
ounces 54 quart. If its filled properly to the top.
Whats the least amount I can donate?
For shipping the minimum is 300 ounces. If i can find a mommy close to you that
can drive. The donation amount can much smaller in that case.. But its hard to
find a match that close.
Do I need Dry Ice to keep the milk frozen?
No you do not. Milk banks don't use dry ice anymore either from what I
understand. IF your cooler is full to the top. The milk insulates itself. I have it
shipped that way to my Darling Daughter all the time. It arrives frozen like a
rock. Even in the heat of the summer.
But if you wish to use it they you can do so. You will have to put 10 extra dollars
in the cooler for the donor to go buy the ice. You might check with her see if its
alright she does that. Some donors have small children and the running around
is to much of a hassle. Some moms have used frozen blue ice as well. But the
milk itself is frozen already. Adding blue ice just adds to your poundage and
cost in your cooler . I would not use them.
What advice would you give to a Mother who
wants to donate about pumping and storing?
My advice would be to make sure she washes her breasts, hands and all
pumping supplies just prior to pumping. This will help insure less possibility of
contamination in the milk. An if she used storage containers make sure they are
clean and dry. I have sent both bags and storage containers to my donors.
After she pumps. Place the milk in the fridge to cool down. Then date them and
freeze.
Mommy's receiving the milk
Show gratitude to your donor.
Let her know how much you appreciate all her hard work and unselfish
kindness. For this is truly indeed a special lady. Giving only the gift one mother
can give to another for her beautiful baby.
